When we are invited to participate in a pitch or submit a proposal, we invest significant time understanding the client’s objectives, conceptualising ideas, engaging vendors, coordinating with talents, and building something meaningful and tailored. Especially in the events industry, many of these conversations happen for events over peak periods where schedules and resources are extremely tight.

We fully understand that we will not win every engagement — that is part of business, and competition keeps all of us sharp. But what can be difficult is when the process ends in silence.

Emails go unanswered. Messages are left hanging. Vendors and talents begin asking for updates because they are holding dates and resources, and all we can honestly say is: “We are still waiting to hear back ourselves.”

Eventually, after repeated follow-ups, we may finally hear: “Sorry, you were not selected.”

While that may not be the outcome we hoped for, timely communication and closure would have gone a long way — not just professionally, but respectfully. It allows everyone involved to move forward, release resources, and focus attention elsewhere.

In any industry, closing the loop matters. A simple update, even a difficult one, reflects professionalism, respect for people’s time, and appreciation for the effort invested by all parties.

To all clients and partners — whether we win or lose — communication and transparency will always be appreciated more than silence.
